October sees slowdown in growth of bank loans to households and businesses

Bank loans to the non-financial sector showed a slowdown in growth, from 3.3% in September to 2.4% in October, according to the latest report by Bank Al-Maghrib on monetary statistics.

Bank Al-Maghrib explained that this slowdown in the growth of bank loans to the non-financial sector is primarily due to a deceleration in loans to both private and public non-financial companies, which grew by 1.5% compared to 2% the previous month, and by 2.7% compared to 14.9% in the previous month.

Meanwhile, loans to households experienced near stagnation at 1%, while loans to individuals accelerated from 2.1% to 2.5%, and the decline in loans to individual entrepreneurs worsened to -10.6% from -7.2% previously.

In terms of economic purpose, the development of bank loans to the non-financial sector reflects a slowdown in the growth of treasury facilities from 5.1% to 0.9%, equipment loans from 8.3% to 7.4%, near stagnation in mortgage loans at 2%, and an acceleration in consumer loan growth to 1.5% from 1.1%.

As for non-performing loans, they remained stable at 3.5%, with the ratio of non-performing loans to total loans steady at 8.8%.
