Morocco’s tourism revenue to hit $11.4 billion in 2024 with record 16.5 mln visitors

Morocco’s tourism industry is projected to generate MAD 114 billion ($11.4 billion) this year, a 9% increase over the previous year, according to recent projections obtained by Bloomberg from the Ministry of Tourism.

This growth is fueled by a combination of factors, including increased international interest in Morocco’s diverse cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cities.

The country’s strategic location, accessibility, and warm hospitality have also contributed to its rising popularity among tourists worldwide.

The total number of tourists is projected to reach 16.5 million by the end of the year.

The tourism sector has not only boosted economic growth but has also created numerous job opportunities. The number of people employed in the industry has risen to 827,000 people, accounting for 7.8% of the total workforce, compared to 5% in 2019.

As of the end of October, the number of tourists visiting the Kingdom reached 14.6 million, surpassing the previous year’s full-year record in just ten months.

Tourism revenue reached approximately 97 billion dirhams by the end of October, marking a nearly 10% year-on-year increase, according to the Office of Foreign Exchange, the government agency responsible for foreign trade statistics.

Morocco’s Minister of Tourism, Fatima Zahra Amor, had previously said that Morocco aims to become one of the world’s top 15 tourist destinations.

Morocco’s goal is to welcome 26 million tourists by 2030 as part of a broader strategy to strengthen its position on the global tourism map.

Morocco is focusing on offering a diverse range of tourist experiences across the country. This includes water sports, desert activities, cultural experiences, and improved air connectivity to key tourist markets.

The tourism sector has shown consistent growth in recent years, with revenues surpassing $10 billion for the first time in 2023, following the arrival of 14.5 million tourists.
