Morocco is becoming a popular destination for Spanish tourists looking to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
Recent data shows a big jump in bookings to Morocco from 2021 to 2024. According to travel publication Travel & Tour World, Morocco’s share of Spanish tourist bookings has risen to 3% in 2024, up from almost none in 2021.
At the same time, bookings for trips within Spain have dropped sharply, from 60% in 2021 to only 22% in 2024. This shows a change in Spanish travelers’ preferences, with more people choosing international travel.
While Europe is still the top choice for Spanish tourists, with 92% of bookings in 2024, Morocco has successfully established itself as a unique destination. Cities like Marrakech, Casablanca, and Fez are now popular for New Year’s, offering traditional music, dancing, and festive atmospheres different from Europe.
This growing interest comes as Morocco experiences a general tourism boom. By November 2024, the country welcomed about 16 million visitors, a 20% increase compared to the previous year. As Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, it aims to attract 26 million visitors annually by the end of the decade.
