Morocco has seen a decline in its ranking as a tomato exporter to Spain in the first ten months of 2024, now trailing Portugal. In previous years, Morocco had been the leading supplier.
According to Hort Info, a Spanish platform specializing in agricultural data, Morocco ranked second in tomato exports to Spain in 2024, with a 9.4% increase in exports compared to the same period in 2023.
Moroccan tomato exports to Spain reached 42.47 million kilograms, accounting for 24.46% of Spain’s total tomato imports. The average price per kilogram was €1.34, totaling €56.7 million in value.
Meanwhile, Portugal’s share of Spain’s total tomato imports stood at 49.67%, marking a 22.2% increase compared to 2023. Portuguese exports rose from 70.58 million kilograms in 2023 to 86.25 million kilograms in 2024.
