Morocco’s Minister of Tourism, Fatima Zahra Amor, announced that the country aims to become one of the world’s top 15 tourist destinations. She made the statement during her speech at the opening of the “Moroccan Front” summit, organized by the Moroccan Tourism Engineering Company, held in Casablanca on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Minister Amour explained that Morocco’s goal is to welcome 26 million tourists by 2030 as part of a broader strategy to strengthen its position on the global tourism map.
She highlighted that Morocco is focusing on offering a diverse range of tourist experiences across the country. This includes water sports, desert activities, cultural experiences, and improved air connectivity to key tourist markets.
Amour also revealed that Morocco welcomed 14.6 million tourists in the first 10 months of 2024, surpassing the total number of visitors recorded in 2023.
Regarding revenues, the tourism sector generated $8.7 billion in the first ten months of 2024, reflecting an 8.4% growth compared to 2023.
The tourism sector has shown consistent growth in recent years, with revenues surpassing $10 billion for the first time in 2023, following the arrival of 14.5 million tourists.
Morocco is also targeting 17.5 million visitors by 2026, bolstered by upcoming major international events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted with Spain and Portugal.
In 2023, tourism became the second-largest source of foreign currency for Morocco, following remittances from Moroccan expatriates. The sector continues to be a key driver of economic growth for the country.
