Minimum wage increases: Key sectors to be affected as dialogues continue

Younes Sekkouri, Morocco’s Minister of Economic Integration, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, unveiled a decree on Monday detailing the government’s plan to raise minimum wages in line with its social dialogue commitments.

Effective January 1, 2025, the legal minimum wage (SMIG) for non-agricultural sectors will increase by 5%, bringing the hourly rate to 17.10 Moroccan dirhams (MAD). This adjustment will result in a net monthly wage increase from 2,638.05 MAD to 3,045.96 MAD, reflecting a cumulative 15% rise during the government’s tenure.

For agricultural workers, the legal minimum daily wage (SMAG) will also see a 5% boost, reaching 93 MAD per day starting April 1, 2025. Net monthly wages for SMAG will grow from 1,859.79 MAD to 2,255.03 MAD, representing an overall increase of 20%.

These measures are part of the government’s broader effort to enhance economic conditions for workers and honor commitments made during social dialogue agreements. The changes are expected to positively impact wage earners across both agricultural and non-agricultural sectors.
