Abdellatif Jouahri, governor of Bank Al-Maghrib, stated Tuesday that it is too early to determine the financial implications of hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to reporters, Jouahri highlighted that hosting the global event will generate significant and diverse revenue streams for Morocco.
While acknowledging that organizing the tournament will require a portion of the national budget, Jouahri emphasized the anticipated economic benefits, including increased value-added tax (VAT) revenues and boosted investments. He dismissed concerns that hosting the event would lead to higher inflation or other adverse effects on Morocco’s economy.
Morocco will co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, following FIFA’s official announcement awarding the event to the three nations. The World Cup is part of a series of major football tournaments Morocco will host, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Jouahri’s remarks sought to reassure the public about Morocco’s financial readiness, emphasizing the country’s ability to manage the costs while capitalizing on the economic opportunities the event presents.
