Opening of new Forvia plant in Sale enhances Morocco’s booming automotive industry

In a significant move to strengthen Morocco’s automotive manufacturing sector, Forvia, the world’s seventh-largest supplier of automotive technology and equipment, officially opened a new manufacturing facility in the Technopolis industrial zone in Salé. The event, held on Wednesday, was attended by Ryad Mezzour, Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, and Patrick Koller, CEO of Forvia.

The new plant will specialize in the cutting and production of automotive seat covers, including both fabric and leather materials. This latest addition to Forvia’s industrial footprint is expected to further boost Morocco’s automotive production capacity, contributing to job creation and supporting the global supply chain for major automotive markets in Europe and the Americas.

During the event, Minister Mezzour expressed his satisfaction with the new investment, highlighting that the facility will create up to 1,400 jobs by 2027, bringing the total number of employees across Forvia’s sites in Morocco to approximately 6,000. “This new plant is a testament to Morocco’s growing attractiveness as a hub for industrial investment.

It reflects Forvia’s confidence in the country’s competitiveness and in the talent of Moroccan workers,” Mezzour said, underscoring the importance of such investments in strengthening Morocco’s position in the global automotive industry.

He also pointed out that this facility, combined with the expansion of Forvia’s site in Kenitra, demonstrates the company’s commitment to Morocco and its role as a key player in the global automotive supply chain. The expansion in Kenitra, set to employ an additional 450 workers, will further enhance Morocco’s automotive production capabilities.

Tawfiq Amiri, Operations Manager for Forvia in Morocco and North Africa, emphasized that the new Sla facility will meet the growing demand from European customers, providing not only new jobs but also contributing to the development of the automotive manufacturing ecosystem in Morocco. “With 1,400 new jobs at this plant and a total of 3,200 job openings across both facilities, we are proud to support the Moroccan automotive sector’s growth,” Amiri said.

Patrick Koller, CEO of Forvia, also celebrated the opening of the new plant, noting that it would play a crucial role in improving the local integration of the automotive sector and strengthening Morocco’s position in global value chains. “These two new sites, in Salé and Kenitra, will help Forvia improve its competitiveness and contribute to the creation of nearly 2,000 new jobs in Morocco by 2027,” Koller said. “We are committed to innovation and industrial development in Morocco, and we are proud to be part of the country’s dynamic automotive ecosystem.”

Forvia, which has been active in Morocco since 2008, currently operates three plants in the country (two in Kenitra and one in Salé) and employs nearly 4,000 people. The company manufactures a wide range of automotive components, including seat covers, dashboards, door panels, and interior trim, as well as the final assembly of automotive processing systems.

The new facility aligns with Morocco’s strategy to become a global leader in automotive manufacturing and is expected to play a vital role in the country’s continued economic development in the coming years.
