50 U.S. companies on agribusiness mission to Morocco in December

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will lead an agribusiness trade mission to Casablanca, Morocco, from December 2 to 5, 2024. Morocco is the second-largest market for U.S. agricultural exports in Africa, making it a key focus for U.S. agribusinesses seeking to expand their reach in the region.

The mission will involve nearly 50 U.S. companies from the food and agriculture sectors, alongside representatives from 14 state agricultural departments. Their goal is to strengthen U.S. agricultural and food exports to Morocco and other West African markets by fostering new business partnerships and exploring emerging opportunities in Morocco’s rapidly developing food sector.

Daniel Whitley, Administrator of the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service, emphasized that this mission provides a crucial platform for U.S. agribusinesses to tap into Morocco’s dynamic market, leveraging its strategic location as a gateway to broader African markets.

“We are committed to facilitating these vital connections and working to increase U.S. agricultural exports,” he said.

In 2023, U.S. agricultural and food exports to Morocco totaled $619 million, which represented 16% of the African market share. Since the U.S.-Morocco Free Trade Agreement came into effect in 2006, agricultural exports to Morocco have doubled, demonstrating the success and potential of trade between the two countries.

Morocco is not only a stable, growing market but also a key distribution hub for the African continent, with significant demand for bulk and intermediate goods from the U.S. The country’s expanding food processing sector, along with the increasing demand from its growing consumer base, presents new opportunities for U.S. exporters across a variety of sectors, including beef, dairy, grains, seafood, potatoes, soybeans, and tree nuts.

During the mission, U.S. representatives will engage in business-to-business meetings with potential Moroccan importers, fostering partnerships that could lead to long-term trade relationships.
