Gasoline prices in Morocco have dropped by 30 centimes per liter, while diesel prices have remained unchanged, continuing a trend of slight price reductions observed since August. The new changes took effect on Saturday and apply to fuel stations nationwide.
This price reduction comes in the wake of updates from fuel distributors at the beginning of November, following a previous reduction in diesel prices earlier this month. At that time, gasoline prices remained stable.
According to gas station owners, the latest reduction in gasoline prices marks the fifth price drop in the past three and a half months. The most recent price increase occurred in early July, when prices rose by up to 33 centimes per liter, raising concerns that Morocco might face a repeat of the price hikes seen in the summer of 2021.
The price of diesel in Rabat is currently set at 11.30 dirhams per liter, while gasoline is priced at 13.49 dirhams per liter. These prices may vary across cities, depending on their proximity to ports that handle fuel imports from international markets. Since the closure of the “Samir” refinery, Morocco has been reliant on refined oil imports.
Despite tensions in the Middle East—particularly between Israel and Iran—fuel prices in Morocco have remained stable. The market has shown little sign of being impacted by these geopolitical developments, with prices continuing to adjust downward in early and mid-November.
The international oil market is also seeing some declines, with Brent crude futures dropping by $1.52, or 2.09%, to $71.04 per barrel, and West Texas Intermediate futures falling by 2.45%, settling at $76.02 per barrel, according to Friday’s reports from international news agencies.
